Know your voting rights

  • Your vote is your voice: Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t vote.
  • Identification: Check if you need to show ID. Some states require it, but not all.
  • Access: You have the right to vote in an accessible place. If you have a disability, ask for help.
  • Assistance: You can bring someone with you to help you, or ask poll workers for help.
  • Voting time: Know the voting hours in your area; you can vote in person or by mail!
  • If the polls close while you are in line, stay in line. You have the right to vote.
  • If you make a mistake on your ballot, ask for a new one.
  • If the machines are down at your polling place, ask for a paper ballot.
  • Issues: If you run into any problems or have questions on Election day, call the Election Protection Hotline.

  • Confidentiality: Your vote is secret. You do not have to disclose who you voted for.
